So after you click a particular Hot Topic you should be able to save that Hot Topic search to a folder.

When logging in or checking the site I would like to be notified of (the number of) new tweets per folder, just like you would with Google Reader etc. This would give me a quick overview whether something interesting happened while I was away...

Finding "create new folder" under Search is non-intuitive. It would be easier to see it if it was under Settings/Folders.

Laconica is the software that powers identi.ca, and anyone can download it and set up their own micro blogging server. Leo Laporte has recently done so at http://army.twit.com/. All you have to do to support not just identi.ca, but any Laconica installation, is to let anyone type in the URL of the API. TWiT Army's API is at http://army.twit.com/API, just like identi.ca's API is at http://identi.ca/API. For an example on how this can be done, take a look at http://twitterfeed.com/.
